Your Next Four Beers

Next Four Beers

With hundreds of different beers to choose for what you should try next, we boil it down to four. Even if you already LOVE beer your should fly this flight. The four beers are not too far from the beer that you might be drinking now. The difference? These are world class examples of the style.

Homework: Try them yourself: Widmer Hefeweizen, Pilsner Urquell, Negra Modelo, Guinness Draught (in a can). If you can’t find these examples at your local then look for something that matches the style. Bonus assignment: try a Guinness in a can next to a Guinness from a tap.

Note: we recorded this last week and I’m pushing it out even though the Fresno show just went up.

Well…. I was inspired while listening on the way home from work, so I ducked into the bottle-o (aussie for bottleshop - or place where booze is purchased) near the train station and grabbed a proper German Hefeweizen for the trip (and the podcast listening). Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen. Very tasty, but not too much different from the locally brewed Wheat Beers (except it was 500mL instead of the average 330mL) - citrusy and refreshing after a hard day of babysitting (aka teaching) uni students.

Really enjoy the show. First heard about it on TWIM and just spent most of a drive from Houton to Cape Kennedy (no, I did not use a diaper) catching up on the previous shows.

One suggestion would be that you have a page that lists all the beers (or at least the buy able ones) you talk about. Since I was driving there were times I wanted to note a beer name but could not. I know this would add a bit of work but think it would definitely improve the whole experience.

Can’t wait until my next trip to San Francisco, I will definitely be stopping by the 21st Amendment

Good suggestion. We’ll start doing that from now on. The list will be in two parts: what we drank on the show and what we just talked about.

Excellent I look forward to that list. Hell I was going to start doing it myself(Instead of working?).

Great show guys! How many preshow drinks did you have? You sounded very happy :D

    Hi Guys

Loving the beer school lessons. I have a pedantic correction on the name of Hefeweizen for you though. You said that Hefe means wheat in German. It actually means yeast. Wiezen means wheat. So Hefeweizen means “yeast wheat”. You also get Krystal weizen in Germany which is the name for the filtered wheat beers.

Anyway, keep up the great work. I have been rediscovering some beers I had forgotten about and tried a few new ones thanks to you guys.

Some day I will try and write down the story (here) that I heard from the PhD student at the Kronenbourg brewery in Strasbourg who told me what hefeweizen means.

    Cheers
    James

Love the show. I’m busy listening to old episodes trying to catch up.
    Sorry about the late enrollment.

Not to bring your coloring too far back in the lines, but a small non-beer related correction.
The song “Spoonman” is not by Pearl Jam, it is a song by Soundgarden.

    Keep up the good work.
